'Indi'-Pendence Day!
Hello people..:) my
fingers were itching since yesterday to pen down something. The facebook was
full of independence day pictures, wishes etc and etc. Even I updated my coverpage
with that picture of the Indian flag which was hoisted in the year 1947. And
twitter was trending with a hastag called “twitterin1947” what an idea sirji!
There were so many amazing and creative tweets from various people from India
and Pakistan. Yes, hope everyone does remember that the nation which is our
biggest enemy today and a neighbour was part of this whole land called India.
And freedom came with the partition of this one land. They divided us on the
basis of religion, one religion here one there. As everyone has learnt in
their history textbooks it was a mess. I wont repeat the same things again
which the history textbooks have told you till now.
I just want to
express what I am feeling on this day 15th August 2012. The 65th independence
day of our nation. And since yesterday I am feeling that urge of patriotism. Since
the yesterday’s morning I am singing patriotic songs and my classmates made fun
of mine. Maybe because of my “not so good” voice. :D whatever, one of them even
said that “patriotism does not come by singing patriotic songs. It should come
from heart” I said ok now please repeat this sentence in our Indian language for me..they tried but
words like “heart” still came in our ruler’s language, English. You will also
say that even I am writing with that ruler’s or coloniser’s language. But to be
frank the language has got into our lives so much that if I had written this
post in some Indian language I am sure many would either find it difficult to
read it or just would not care to read because its in “local” language.
That reminds me
about our attitude towards everything that we call “local”. Every time we talk
about this country we complain. We complain about its politics, the corruption
existing in it, we complain about the reservations system, the demerits of it,
we complain about the slow Internet, the late coming trains, the oily food, the
filthy places and you must be better knowing what other things we complain
about. I don't say that we should not but if you cant do anything to change it
don't just complain about it. That is what I feel.
And the most
important thing about this generation is that they just see the “filthy” side
of this country. No one has time to praise its cultural heritage, the family
values we inculcate, the biodiversity which we have, the largest democracy
which we run,the glorifying bollywood industry we have and so many other
things. If you look a bit closer you will find many amazing things about this
country. You just need to have better eyes. And only if we see the good things
we will have a better approach to change the bad things which exist. Or else
after some years our kids would start thinking that we live in a country that’s
“bad”. Let’s not ignore the realities but lets also not ignore the beauty. Now
you will say that what is the use if you feel patriotic on just one day and
then forget about it the next day. But every Indian has the right to be
patriotic, feel good on this day. Because other days we just complain about
this country but at least on this day we would sing of its glory. Lets take pride in being what we are. The Indians.
Hindustani..Bhartiya! Jai Hind! Happy Independence Day! J
